Introduction

As the Co-Founder of CodeQuestt Hackathon, I’ve organized events that empower students and developers to innovate and collaborate. From raising INR 4 lakh in sponsorships for HackSkye Hackathon to managing 2,000+ attendees, I’ve learned what makes a hackathon thrive. In this post, I share five essential tips for organizing a successful hackathon, drawing from my experiences in Chandigarh and Bengaluru. Whether you’re planning your first event or scaling up, these strategies will help you succeed.

My Hackathon Journey

Since June 2024, I’ve led CodeQuestt, a hackathon series fostering creativity in tech. My role as Chief Technology Officer at HackSkye Hackathon (November 2024–January 2025) involved securing sponsorships and ensuring event quality. These experiences, combined with my MUN leadership skills, shaped the tips below.

5 Tips for Hackathon Success

1. Define Clear Objectives

Set specific goals, like fostering innovation or teaching cybersecurity. For CodeQuestt, we focused on empowering students with real-world coding challenges. Clear objectives attract participants and sponsors.

Tip: Create a mission statement and share it on your event site, like CodeQuestt.

2. Secure Strong Sponsorships

Raising INR 4 lakh for HackSkye required pitching to tech companies. My role as Sponsorship Consultant Director at Maximally taught me to highlight mutual benefits, like brand exposure.

Tip: Use LinkedIn to connect with sponsors. Offer perks like logo placement or speaking slots.

3. Streamline Logistics

Manage venues, judges, and schedules meticulously. At HackSkye, I coordinated 2,000+ attendees using tools like Notion and Slack to track tasks.

Tip: Build a timeline in Notion to manage registrations, catering, and tech setup.

4. Prioritize Participant Experience
